Attachments not attaching, no error message

I've attached several pdfs to items in my library, but I have two items that won't accept attachments. I'm nowhere near my storage limit (1.9mb out of 300). When I click to attach a pdf to an item it lets me choose the file as normal, but then nothing happens, no error message but no attachment either.
