Symbolic links within a collection tree

I use the collection tree to order my records because I find that the tags are unmanageable with a large dataset. Often I find that a particular issue or sub-collection needs to appear in more than one tree. It would be very useful (and significantly simplifying) to be able to link a virtual subcollection to an existing one. (It is possible to link standalone notes, but the link takes place outside of the collection tree.)

    so essentially you're asking for the collection version of what hierarchical tags would be, correct?
    I.e. I have the same collection - say "Articles on Zotero" - and want it to appear in "Open Source Software" and "Academic Software" - is that right?

    Yes -- exactly as you describe, although tags, in my experience, slow Zotero quite dramatically.
