Changing default new item type when using shortcut-key in Mac version

When you hit command-shift-N to add a new item in Zotero Standalone Mac, it offers you a drop down box of item types for the new item. "Book" is check-marked as the default. How do I make "Journal Article" (or something else) the default? I've checked all the options and can't find this anywhere. Simply selecting Journal Article doesn't change it. I can't find this in the documentation. Any suggestions?
  • I don't think that can be changed currently - but note that the list will - like all lists in Zotero and most other software - jump to letters you press. I.e.
    cmd+shift+N --> J --> Enter
    creates a journal article
  • Ok. I did discover that, but unfortunately also the interaction of the mouse (touchpad) can interfere with the J key being pressable. It would be nice to have a changeable default. Also would be nice to be able to kind of duplicate the previous bibliographic entry. I'm building a large database of journal articles, and having to repeat volume numbers, issue numbers, dates, etc. is time-consuming...! :)

    Right-click --> Duplicate Item
  • Ah, perfect. Thank you. That will save me tons.

    We can make it default to the last-used item type.

    Issue created.
  • This is done in the latest 4.0 Branch dev XPI.
