refreshing pdf meta-data

I've got many pdfs, and meta-data for most was fetched by Zotero. But it was done using Google Scholar before better options were available/working, afaik. Significantly, there is no DOI in most cases. More recently, with crossref, the meta-data is better.

How can I "redo" all the old ones using crossref as the resolver, to get better meta-data including the DOI? I can see no way other than essentially throwing all the existing meta-data away and starting again.
  • that's currently pretty much the case, yes. There is no update metadata function. It's generally planned and we understand how useful it is, but it's not easy to do it well.
The best way to fix this would likely be to get fresh metadata from the publishers' websites - CrossRef, too, isn't the greatest sources (e.g. you won't get any abstracts) - using a link resolver (you can customize that for your library in ZOtero's advanced tab of the preferences) may help.
  • Thank you, that's a good plan actually.
