Why is it not possible to add a referenec by inserting the ISSN number? Only ISBN, DOI and PMID are available.

    There's no periodical item type in Zotero at the moment. It is planned, though.
    I think that's the main reason.

    Zotero currently doesn't have an item type for storing the metadata of an entire publication series (e.g. a journal), while ISBN, DOI, and PMID (often) cleanly map to "Book" and "Journal Article".

    we'd also have to find a good ISSN database, but yes, the lack of an item type is the main issue.
