zotero icon does not appear on any page in safari

A while ago the zotero folder icon (which was located to the left of the web address bar) stopped appearing on any webpage. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7. and Safari 5.1.7, and am using Zotero standalone. I recently updated Zotero. When that didn't fix the problem, I uninstalled and then reinstalled Zotero.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Make sure the Zotero Safari connector is installed in Safari. IIRC, it should be permanently visible (just greyed out on sites where it's not working) on the left of the URL bar. Find it and install from
    zotero.org/download
