Trying to synch to new computer

Hello,

I have a new PC, and want to synch my library. When I log into Zotero Standalone, it is telling me that the Local Object (which is empty) and the Remote Object are different, and asking me to choose one. The only problem is, Standalone is telling me my Remote Object has been deleted.

This is made even more confusing by the fact that I can still access my full library by logging into Zotero.org.

Any ideas?
  • Could you take a screenshot of what you're seeing and post it to a free image hosting site like http://imgur.com/ (or anything else you prefer)?

Otherwise, what do you mean by
the Local Object (which is empty)
For the object that Zotero is telling you has been deleted (remotely), can you see it on zotero.org? If that's the case, double-check that you are logging in with the same username.
  • This is the screen that appears to me.

When I log into Zotero.org, with the same account, I am seeing my full library, no problem.
  • This is normal. You probably want to choose the remote (deleted) object and click next.

What happens is that Zotero creates one item in all new installations as a Hello! message. You probably deleted it on your other computer, but not this one, so Zotero does not know what to do and is asking you if you want top keep it (local object) or delete it (remote object). One you resolve the sync conflict, your items will sync and you will be able to see them all in Zotero Standalone.
  • It won't let me select the Remote Object, only the Local, and selecting the Local runs the risk of actually deleting my library (even if it only exists online at this point).

    Any other thoughts?

this is just one item - the Zotero startup quick info - it doesn't really matter what you do and there is no risk for your library.

It won't let me select the Remote Object, only the Local
Even if the "Choose this version" button is missing (which, I don't even see in Zotero 3.0.14) you should be able to click anywhere within the Remote Object or Local Object section to select them. The Merged Object should change to display your choice. Are you running the latest version of Zotero (3.0.14)?
and selecting the Local runs the risk of actually deleting my library (even if it only exists online at this point).
I'm confused why you think so. Each sync conflict is resolved per-item basis, so there is no chance of deleting the entire library by choosing local or remote for a single item.

Edit: nvm my question about Zotero version. I see the button now on the next resolution screen.
