Exporting to avoid storage files accumulation?

Hi all,

I'm trying to keep 2 different zotero installations in sync. So far, I've being doing it by rsync'ing the zotero folder from one computer to the other. The problem, of course, is that eventually I'll add new references to both installations with no sync in between. This will mean that rsync will update the master database in one of the installations and loose the references to new articles in the oldest one. Moreover, it will leave all files associated with the lost references behind.

My question is: when exporting the library does it export only files that are referenced in the database? and can I use this (by exporting, deleting the library and importing) to get rid of files that have no references within the database?

By the way, any thoughts on a better way to keep libraries in two computers in sync are more than welcome.

Thanks
