Attempting add-in says "this reference no longer available in catalog"

Does anyone know what to do when the message in microsoft word, after clicking 'add-in' zotero citation - says "this reference no longer available in library" then gives you an option to delete all codes with this citation. When click 'yes' it will delete codes (I guess it means in the word document already cited which I want). If click 'no', it gets stuck in a loop with the green bar running endlessly across screen.

I can't understand why it says reference 'no longer available' when if I go to the zotero library - it is still listed under Chapter heading.

thank you so much
Jennifer
  • the reference will appear when Zotero doesn't find the unique identifier inserted in the Word document for that reference in your library.
First, note that this does _not_ refer to the reference that you're inserting at that moment, but to the one that Zotero highlights when the message comes up (and Zotero should say "the highlighted reference...")
If you're sure you're looking for the right reference, the most likely scenarios are that you exported and imported your Zotero library or parts thereof, that you deleted one of several copies of that item (and happened to delete the one inserted in Word) rather than using the merge duplicate feature, or that you're working on the document on different machines that aren't fully synced.
