Newlines being inserted after footnotes

A large document (~50 pages) with many footnotes (>100) has recently begun inserting two newlines (\r\n) after each Zotero reference, leading to a lot of wasted whitespace in the footnotes that has to be manually deleted.
This seems to have happened following my upgrade to 3.0.13.
I'm using LibreOffice 3.4.3 and the Chicago Manual of Style (full note) citation style, displayed as Footnotes.

Can anyone explain what is happening and how I can stop it?
