Style error: Phytopathology

The existing citation style does not abbreviate journal titles as it should. See apsjournals.apsnet.org/userimages/.../phyto_author_instructions.pdf

This is the same style for the journal Plant Disease.
the style does use journal abbreviations where they're in the data
  • So does one need to change these manually?! Or download the citations from a source that uses the abbreviated journal title in the metadata? If Zotero is not one of the choices, is there a way to know which citation manager format (Endnote, RTF, RIS, RefManager, etc.) results in the optimal format for Zotero to put into this style?

I also noticed that this style results in a period after the (non-abbrev.) journal title, and does not add a period at the end of the citation. And italics in the title are always lost, but maybe that is inevitable.

either of those yes. Obviously where possible the latter is preferable.
If Zotero is not one of the choices, is there a way to know which citation manager format (Endnote, RTF, RIS, RefManager, etc.) results in the optimal format for Zotero to put into this style?
where possible, use the Zotero URL bar icon, which should be available on most relevant sites/databases - which site are you looking at?
If you do download data, there is typically no difference between RIS/RefManager (those are the same) and Endnote (which is either the same or closely related). RTF is not a data format, so that'll be useless.
I also noticed that this style results in a period after the (non-abbrev.) journal title, and does not add a period at the end of the citation.
I'll fix that, thanks, might take a little time.
And italics in the title are always lost, but maybe that is inevitable.
Most databases do not export italics, so this won't typically happen automatically, but Zotero itself does support entering and citing italics:

  • Ok, this is useful information.
I will try to use the Zotero URL bar icon where I can. I have probably overlooked it.
Thanks in advance for fixing those other two style errors.
I'm glad to learn how to italicize, although it's a pain to do this manually. Another annoying thing I have to fix manually are the capital letters in every word of the title for each APS journal publication. This is embedded in the metadata. Any shortcuts for making the entire title lowercase?
  • Sounds great. But I don't see a "Transform Text" option anywhere.
  • You should be right-clicking the title _not_ while in edit mode (i.e. not when you can type in the field)
  • The style is now fixed. The updated version will appear on the repository within 30mins (check the timestamp for the style "American Phytopatholigical Society (numeric)). Update your copy of the style by re-installing it from the repository. (See here if you need instructions for installing styles in standalone.)
