[MLZ] American Law Style's patent citation format

American Law Style's patent citation doesn't conform to what is illustrated in the documentation. The format illustrated in the documentation is not far off from Bluebook's, but what I'm actually getting in MLZ looks totally different.
  • and you've made sure you've input the data exactly as prescribed in the proofsheet? http://citationstylist.org/wp-content/uploads/patent-1.pdf
  • I didn't input the data manually. It was captured from Google Patent using the translator.
  • MLZ isn't at a point where you can rely on automatic import for correct citations of legal material for most sites.

I have a major release of MLZ in waiting at the moment. The new client will be much easier to work with -- the hack menu in the Extra field will go away, and the fields there will be moved up into the main interface; and multilingual field variants will sync properly. On the down side, the new release will be database incompatible with official Zotero, but sharing of records between the two versions via sync will be possible.

The styles will need to be adapted to the new version before it is released. When I turn to that work (probably in the next week or two), I'll take a look at the patent form and be sure it works as advertised.
  • @fbennett,
It does sound like a major change. Good luck, and thanks for the good work.
  • You can preview the item types and field assignments of the new version here:

If you see anything missing in the types you use most frequently, let me know. This is a really good time for feedback.
  • I had a quick look at the table and the field assignments for patent look all right.

The problem I'm having is probably caused by the style - MLZ American Law style in this case. The long-form patent citation format in MLZ American Law does not include the patent number, which is strange. All the other frequently used citation formats, including Bluebook, require the patent number.
