PDF indexing

Hi,

I'm new in Zotero and I've just imported an article in PDF. I also imported it's citation from PubMed in nbib format. I launched the indexation of the PDF version and on the left side of "Indexed" it's written "yes", therefore I suppose it worked.
But....when I try to search the article by author.....the results it gives me the citation and not the PDF version......any idea on why? maybe the indexation of the PDF file didn't work?

thks for help, Benedetta

indexing just means that Zotero can search the full text of the PDF, not that it knows what its author, title, etc. is. Attach the PDF to the citation data for that.
  • Actually, my entire library is composed by .pdf files that I saved in a folder, the file name being assigned by myself (year_author_etc.). As I'm starting with a research project and need a reference manager I installed Zotero > imported all the .pdf files in my Zotero library > selected all the pdf.files/or one at a time > launched the metadata search in order to allow importation of bibliographic references and citation...
Problems > it does't find the metadata for all articles, even for those for which metadata exists; when I launch the metadata search one by one in some cases it works but not always and it's not clear why; below the different messages given by the program:
"the text doesn't contain OCR text" ...what to do in this case?
"it's not possible to find bibliographic references" ....
"you've reached the limit for the research. try again" ....what does it mean and what I have to do?

How can I solve my problem without having to import information one by one?

thank a lot for the support !!
  • 1.) "The text doesn't contain OCR" - you can't do anything about those. They don't have any text that Zotero can read to extract metadata. You need to manually input the data.
    2) "It's not possible to find"... basically the same as 1) - Zotero can read the text, but doesn't find the data for that. Again, best choice is to either input data manually or search for a place online where you can import the data from (and then attach the PDF).

    3) "Query Limit" - Zotero relies on Google Scholar for some of the metadata extraction. Once you have reached the query limit (which google imposes) you need to wait some time - a day or so - before that part works again.
