How to cite (Dupont et al., 2000) or "as recommended by Dupont et al. (2000)

Sometimes in the same paper a reference can be cite two different ways. For instance (Dupont et al., 2000) or "as recommended by Dupont et al. (2000).
How can Zotero deal with this point ?

Suppress Authors: Using Authors in the Text

With author-date styles, authors are often moved into the text and omitted from the following parentheses-enclosed citation, e.g.: ”…according to Smith (1776) the division of labor is crucial…”. To omit the authors from the cite, check the “Suppress Author” box (this will result in a cite like ”(1776)” instead of ”(Smith, 1776)”), and write the author's name (“Smith”) as part of the regular text in your document.

Let's say I want to do several author date citations in a footnote without the parentheses - is there a way to suppress the parentheses?

depends - if all citations are like that you'd want to use a different citation style - see e.g. International Organizations.
If those are only some of the citations and the rest are still in text in parentheses, first make sure you actually want to leave out the parentheses - typical author-date styles like Chicago's version or APA still require the parentheses around the year in Footnotes. If you really do want to get rid of the parentheses the only option is to remove them directly in the word processor.
