Deleting a source from the bibliography

I mistakenly listed the same source twice in the bibliography and have accidentally cited both sources in the document. So the same source has two different coresponding citation numbers listed in the document.

I'd like to delete one of the duplicate sources, and change the coresponding citation numbers so that the deleted source no longer has a coresponding citation number.

I also would like the bibliography to update so that the numbers remain sequential.

What is the best way of going about this?
  • Thank you so much!! I did as the link suggested and cleaned up my bibliography but the document that I am working on still includes both citation numbers (from the duplicated sources)in the text as well as in the bibliography. How do I update the text while keeping the citation numbers and sources in the bibliography synchronized? The link suggests that this will happen automatically but it hasn't....?
  • Hi Frank,

The text is not from the original document I created. It has been copied and pasted into another document. Does that have anything to do with it not automatically updating?
