Suddenly unable to insert citation

Hi there,

I am using the latest version of Zotero for firefox 16.0.1 with the Word plugin. Everything was working fine until yesterday afternoon (I even managed to get zotero to run the database of my uni network drive) when it suddenly stopped allowing me to insert citations in any document. When I press the insert citation button nothing happens. No new firefox window, no options, no errors. It does the same thing no matter what document I used.

Does anyone have ideas what might be happening? I have tried reinstalling zotero for fiefox and the extension and that doesn't work. This is pretty bad timing for me as I am due to submit a thesis chapter this week. Any help would be very useful.

  • Running the database of a network drive could be part of the problem. I'd suggest moving that back to a local drive and see if that helps.

Zone Alarm is often the cause of this:

  • Thanks Adamsmith,

Moving back to a local drive would be problematic as the university are trying to get us to move everything to network storage, especially those of us who, like me, work in a hotdesking offce where there is no guarantee that we will get the same PC two days in a row.

If I do manage to get it back to the local drive, I take it I will need to perform regular backups to the network space so I can use it again from another PC the next day?

I do wonder why it had been working perfectly up until now and then just chose to stop work in the middle of a day.
  • That was just a troubleshooting step that adamsmith was suggesting.

    Have you restarted your computer?
