Speed of scraping pdfs

Can anybody help me troubleshoot why some translators seem to work so slowly with pdfs ? I have noticed that even after all citations have been scraped (andso I have seen them first appear in the boxes and then disappear again), it still takes a long time before I can use Zotero again. Is that because it takes longer to enter or attach them to the sqlite-database? And is there anything we can do to make that process run more smoothly?
FYI - I run Zotero (either standalone or Firefox - this problem is the same for both) under Windows; my zotero.sqlite file now is almost 500MB; and I have 7.5 GB in my storage. Yes, I use Zotero very intensively :).
  • It might be worth it to set indexing to 0 while you're importing and then to re-index the entire database occasionally. Depends on your workflow. Also, as your index grows, adding to that index takes more time.
  • Thanks Sebastian - sounds like a good idea. I'll try. But so and that is the only possible culprit?

BTW - is there ANY way to somehow identify the moment at which everything is done and zotero is ready for business again? Other than through trial and error that is?
  • it's not necessarily the _only_ culprit - Zotero also has to download the PDF, and how fast that is depends on a number of things - but it should speed things up quite a bit.

that's an OS question - in Ubuntu Linux, e.g., windows are darker when they're non-responsive, I think Mac has something similar. I don't know about Windows.

Worked like a charm. No need to wait 4-5 minutes now after adding 100 references! Thanks much.

And I will look into how to find out that processes have become irresponsive under windows. Thanks again!
