Adding 773 field to MARC translator?

Hello,

Zotero works beautifully in capturing book records from our database, HLAS Web (http://hlasopac.loc.gov/), but isnt picking up the 773 field with necessary journal article, book chapter, and conference paper information. I don't know java and I'm wondering if anyone can help with a modification to a translator so this field is picked up.

The 773 field is used for journal, chapter, and conference paper information. Examples of 773s and complete records follow. (Note that we tweak MARC a bit because we scoop up this data for use in a print publication.) We use Voyager, just like LOC catalog, to create bibliographic records.

Thank you.

I completely agree. If Simon, who wrote the translator, could say anything about whether this was left out intentionally or just because it's rare I'd be happy to take a look.
From looking at this in the past, just adding the 773 field is easy.
I'm wondering about item types, though - I don't know MARC very well - how would I distinguish between the three items types you have above, do you happen to know?
  • My insanely belated response to your query about distinguishing among 773 types in HLAS records--

each 773 in our database has a subfield $7 followed by
    nnam for book chapters
    nnas for journal articles
    m2am for conference papers

It would be helpful from a user perspective to distinguish among the types, but it may not be necessary as long as all the information in the 773 t, d, g, and x fields appears in the Zotero record.

I was also wondering if it would be possible to add the 520 (annotation, summary) field to the MARC translator? The annotation is really the value-added part of our database. Thank you for any help you can offer!
  • Happy to say we now have 773 support and it works very nicely with HLAS. I tested a fair amount, but let me know if you find any problems.
The least reliable thing will be importing editors, since they're not entered in a standardized form. Currently we only find them when they're preceded by "Edited by".

The 520 field has been importing from HLAS for a while.
