unwanted new tabs in Firefox

Hello. I have Firefox on Windows 7. Every time I click on a zotero item it opens a new window and at the same time creates a new empty tab in the browser. How do I prevent Firefox from opening new empty tab every time I open a new Zotero file? I just want a new window no new tabs. Thanks and have a great week.

When I click on a zotero item (pdf) I have the settings to open it in a new window.

What settings, exactly? You need to provide enough info for people to try to reproduce themselves.
