problem importing pdfs

Hi

I am trying to import a .bib library from Quiqqa. I get this warning

An error occurred while trying to import the selected file. Please ensure that the file is valid and try again.

I'm on a mac with parallels/win7.

I've generated this Debug ID is D2047723573.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

    have you confirmed it is a valid BibTeX file (by running it through latex/bibtex or 'bibcheck' or 'bibclean' or this site)?

    can you post the file somewhere?

    The export from Quiqqa isn't super clean, but Zotero imports it when you remove the file links. There is no formal file field standard in BibTeX, but Mendeley & JabRef & Zotero all assume the formatfile = {Description of the file:/full/path/to/file.pdf:PDF}It may work if you find/replace 'file' with 'pdf' in the exported bibtex file.

    would you mind posting a sample bibtex entry with file link, though?
    We already accommodate the weird stuff that Sente and Mendeley do with their pdfs, we might as well accommodate Quiqqa as well (especially since there is no standard).

    I just did a test with find 'file' replace 'pdf' in the .bib file. Still no PDFs but at least Zotero didn't give me the '[Javascript Application] ' error . Progress?

    file and filename are redundant, they shouldn't both be there, but Zotero just ignores filename, so you can just leave it in and deal with file.

    The problem with pdfs is also connected to the backslashes in the filepath - I'm looking at it.

    OK, try this:
    download this file:
    https://github.com/adam3smith/translators/raw/bibtex2/BibTeX.js

    and move it to the "Translators" folder in your Zotero data folder,
    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
    overwriting the old file with the same name.

    You will still have to rename file to pdf as a above, i.e. in the example above

    should be

    but I think the files should import then.
    Try this with one or two entries to start with to see if this works in general and let me know.
    Once I know this works in general I'll still have to clean-up the code and make this work more broadly (and ideally without switching out the file for pdf)

    Well, something got fixed. I got stuck on other tasks and didn't get the chance to try the above workaround. And then Quiqqa produced an update which seemed to solve the export issue. Perhaps they saw this thread. Anyway, Quiqqa => Zotero import now works, BibTeX with pdfs.
