Abbreviating all footnotes in Chicago Manual

I'm writing a grant proposal for art history using Chicago Manual (full note; no ibid). Because of word count restrictions, I would like to shorten all footnotes (first citations and all subsequent) to: "author (first and last), shortened title (date), page#." The proposal will have a separate, full bibliography for readers to reference full title, publisher and place of publication, etc.

I can't figure out exactly how to change the existing style? Does anyone have advice?
  • that sounds pretty much like the Chicago Manual (note) style. You can change the style for an existing document under Document Preferences in the Word/LibreOffice plugin:

  • You're right, it's pretty close, but Chicago Manual (note) doesn't include the publication year or full author name. Any suggestions for how to tweak it?
  • if you've never worked with XML, frankly, tweaking Chicago style will be a significant time commitment.
If you want to try it, see here:

    and here:

  • Thanks. I was able to manipulate it to do what I wanted.
