Duplicate icons in url window after installing Zotero standalone

I used the beta version of Zotero for Macs for six months or so, then upgraded to Zotero standalone last month. When I search JSTOR or Google Scholar using Chrome, for example, two folder icons (or two book icons or two journal icons, whatever my retrieval is), duplicate icons appear in the url window and nothing loads into a selected Zotero collection. When I do the same search using Firefox, no (0) folder icon appears in the url window, so nothing can load. I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling Zotero standalone but the problem remains. Any suggestions? This only happens on my laptop. Everything works fine if I access my Zotero library or just search using any other laptop or computer.

have you tried uninstalling the Chrome connector from within Chrome? (I know you said "everything" but it seems really hard to believe that this would still be the case)
