Word plugin not finding Zotero

I have tried installing both 1.0b1 and 1.0b3 versions of this plugin. With both, as soon as I try to use any of the toolbar buttons I get the following message: "An error occurred communicating with Zotero. Please ensure Firefox is open and try again." Firefox is of course open, and I have tried this both with and without Zotero actually showing. I apparently have the latest update of Zotero. My Firefox version is 2.0.0.12, I am using Windows XP SP2 and Word 2003.
Any ideas?
