Plug-in button in Word disappeared!

I have recently installed zotero and has been working perfectly,
until this morning for no apparent reason... the plug-in button at my Word Document, is not there anymore! Does not exist as an option. Yes, I am connected to the net and Firefox is open.
When I check my pluggins in firefox zotero is disappeared,
but if I go to worldcat, I am still able to save citation in zotero and access my zotero library which means zotero is still there but for some reason does not connect with Microsoft Word anymore.
I have no idea how to restore this.
Any advice? I have a Windows 7 edition.

thanks

  • Hi.

I have same problem. I could not find the plug-in button, i do have zotero.dot in Word startup folder, and if i click it, the button appears (in word compatibility mode).

    I am using word 2010.

    Please help. Thanks.
  • Have you made sure the zotero.dot is in the actual startup folder for Word? Not just in the folder named startup (or something like that), but the folder you've identified as Word's startup folder following the instructions linked to by Simon.
  • Very interesting.
  • Hi, I had the same issue today and succeeded to resolve it.
Here what I did (Word 2010):

    1. Go to File - Options - Add-Ins
    2. On the bottom there is the drop down list "Manage", where I chose "Word Add-Ins" and clicked on "Go"
    3. Then the first ribbon is "Templates" and there you go to "Add"
    4. Here you add the zotero.dot (if you're not sure where it is located, just go to the search field on the right and type in "zotero.dot") and then "Open"
    5. "OK"

    And all done :)
    Good luck!
  • 1. Open word
    2. go to file (home of the opened word file; click where you click if you want to Save As or Print; Dont click save as.
    3. Below (at the end of recent documents), there are two options: word options and exit word.
    4. click: Word Options
    5. On the window that comes, click add-ins (on the left options).
    6. Zotero add-ins will be under: Disabled Application Add-ins; click it.
    7. Below that window there is: manage with some drop down options
    8. select disabled items and click go.
    9. On the window that pops up, enable zotero. And press Ok.
  • @pnkhoma, your comment saved me. I the official troubleshooting steps with no dice. Turns out the plug-in was disabled for some reason. Thanks
  • We've added a line about "Disabled Application Add-ins", though generally that should be covered by the subsequent steps in Trust Center.
