synonyms and semantics
Hey up

I'd love to see some way of connecting terms that I consider 'synonyms'. For example:
Spontaneous order (Hayek)
Invisible Hand (Smith)
Emergence (computation)
If I can tell the search index these are synonyms - and, say, all PDFs are being indexed - a search can find them all. Clearly, I could choose an appropriate tag for things I know are related. But synonyms would let Zotero know when similar terms crop up in content I *haven't* tagged that are related by a set of terms I've defined.
Ideally, it would also be possible to jump to the use of these search terms in docs. I can't find a way of doing this. (Or seeing them highlighted a la Google PDF text renderings.) Even more ideally (!) Zotero could pick out the paragraph(s) they’re in to produce a kind of smart report. A synonym search could also be a ‘smart’ semantic relation set.
And if I was just dreaming crazily, the timeline window would have a music-production-software-style vertical puller that would allow the whole thing to zoom in and out, and a button to define a particular visual time range. Combined with semantic relations / synonyms, entire idea-threads could be visualised on one page and printed. (And imagine how that would work when Zotero goes server-side and lots of people can contribute…)
Just some thoughts. I think Firefox and Zotero are going to take over the world.
p.s. anyone here from the UK? Can anyone think of any funding pots we can apply to in order to help us build Zotero extensions?
