Can't save EndNote as "text only" when trying to import to Zotero
Hi,
I followed the guidelines explaining how to export from EndNote to Zotero: "In the Export window that pops up, choose “Text Only”, select the RIS output style immediately below “Text Only” in the dialog, and hit “Save.”"
When trying to save the EndNote file, I have the choice between: text file (bxt) rich text format (rtf). I tried both, and neither is accepted by Zotero when I try to import.
What should I do?
thanks!

This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Before commenting here, you should strongly consider starting a new discussion instead. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
Then you open that file with Notepad - I think right click--> open with... should work, else you can open Notepad, select Open from the file menu and open the file.
Then you select the first entry, copy it (ctrl+c) and paste it into the "enter your comments" window here (ctrl+v).
The info in the txt file says as it follows:

Any help you could provide would be very usefull
Thanks!
If that works for this item, split up your exporteditems file into smaller chunks and try to narrow down what doesn't work.
Also, check your recently added items in Zotero (you can sort the center panel by date added) to see if not, in fact, some items were imported.
But I could not see the rest.
I also sorting items by date but I could not get them either....
How could I export them from endnote by smaller chunks?
Thanks again
I don't know how to export smaller chunks from Endnote, but you can import smaller chunks simply by splitting the RIS file up (make sure you always split after the end of a record i.e. after ER -)
or you can work with the clipboard import and select parts of the file.
For instance, I copied and pasted the followinf line:
TY - JOUR
and I got that msg.... I'm I doing it alright? Sorry for being so anoying... I'm and absolute ignorant at this things... but I'm really willing to learn! hehehe
Zotero will not accept things one line at a time.
Within your text edit application : You need to copy everything ( all the lines of text) beginning with the "T" of the first TY all the way through the "-" of the "ER -" line.
Then using Zotero, click on the gear button and from the drop-down menu, select Import from Clipboard.
edit:
Everything between the line beginning with TY - JOUR and the "ER -" is information about a single journal article. You do not need to copy and import these one at a time. After you have one article in Zotero you can select and copy many lines (again, from the TY line to the final "ER -" line) and import them into Zotero.
If the import process fails to bring in all of the articles, there may be a problem with one of the parts of one of the records (the stuff between TY - and the ER -). If that happens, try the import by copying fewer TY ER - chunks.
The problem I see now is that the file containing the exported items only has ONE item....There should be almost a 100!
As far as I can see, when I open the exporteditems.txt file I only see one set of lines begining whith TY and ending with ER wich is afterwards the only item I see at zotero when importing it.
So I think the problem is happening during the export process because I'm getting only one record exported...any idea of what I might be doing wrong?
