Problem dragging and dropping from Group to Private library

I have put some material in a group library for a research assistant to work on. She is attaching material, including scans of the articles etc. When she has finished work on the materials, I want to drag them back into my personal library -- but when I do so, the file attachments are lost. In my prefs, I've selected to include all material when copying items between libraries, and sync attachment files in group libraries using Zotero (I have storage space on Zotero to burn, so this is not an issue of running out of room, or something).

If I drag the entries over from the group library to my own library, attached notes get dragged as well, but not the attached pdfs. But I can access the pdfs fine in the group library from my local machine. So, the pdfs are *there*.

Debug ID when I dragged a single item from group to own library (and yes, pdf attachment was stripped): D365324115
  • Delete the item in your personal library, empty the trash in your personal library, and try dragging again.
  • Now that seems to have done it!

When I made the group libraries for the research assistant to work on, I dragged folders over from my private library into the group library -- which left the entries behind in the private library. Then I tried to bring them back in, and dropped them in a new folder -- but it seems that that just assigned the old versions to the new folder. Once I deleted my private version completely, it came over nicely in the new form with attachments.

I wonder if there is any way this could be made to work more as one expects? If you drag from a group library into the private, and there are already matching private entries, couldn't there be a warning -- and couldn't the originals be replaced, as would happen in any other app?

    Thanks again for your help.
  • Yes, the current behavior isn't ideal. At some point repeated cross-library drags will likely give the option of updating the local items (and/or using the existing conflict resolution functionality).

And at the very least, new child items should be copied if the settings allow it. I've created an issue for that.
