Page numbers and citations

I'm new to Zotero so apologies if this is answered elsewhere (I have tried to search for it) ...
My question is that I need to include the page numbers of citations within the text of my dissertation, following author name/year of publication (eg "(Smith, 2006: 45)"). I can record page numbers within the "Notes" field but do I then have to manually edit each citation in order to insert the page number in the correct place (ie, after the author name/year of publication)?

You do, because citations refer to items, not notes. When inserting a citation, you'll see a field where you can enter the page you want to cite.

I often have Zotero (or a PDF) open besides Word so that I can remember which page I'm citing from.
  • Thanks Mark, that's cleared that up for me.
  • What mark says. You can also input page numbers in the word-processor plugin via handy shortcuts: http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage#keyboard_commands
  • Thanks Adam - I hadn't come across this handy plug-in before.
