browser icon not working

Installed Zotero standalone for Mac OSX 10.6.8 (the latest version) and the browser icon does not show up in the bottom right corner, nor in the browser pane in the top (in either firefox or safari), so cannot download bibliographic information. Did i misinstall zotero, or is there something else I need to do since this is a standalone version?

I've checked the forum and can't see this listed, though it is certainly a common problem. Does someone know of a similar thread?

    You need to install the connector for Safari for it to work in Safari and Zotero for Firefox for it to work in Firefox.

    Same here. Zotero-icon in the Safari toolbar is grayed out. Nothing looks like in the video tutorial about importing into Zotero.

    The videos are for Zotero for Firefox.
    Do you have Standalone installed?
    Are you trying this on a supported site like:

    I have Standalone installed and also got the connector. Yet, when I go to Preferences, and click on the Extensions there is nothing.

    After consulting other threads here, I Disabled the Zotero in Firefox and now it works in Safari. So it's either Safari or Zotero?
