Wrong year from Molecular Microbiology (wiley)

When getting documents from Molecular Microbiology I get the wrong year. The year I get is when the document was put on-line. So for example this document

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2958.1993.tb01237.x/abstract

is for me stored as from 2006, while it was originally published in 1993. I've had the same problem with other papers from here.

Any easy fixes for this?
  • Thanks for reporting - Wiley puts the online publication data in the citation metadata we use, so that's what you're seeing.
Aurimas tried to fix this two weeks ago, but it looks like the fix doesn't work for all instances - maybe he can take another look?
  • That seems to be the same phenomenon I reported here: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/23543/npg-publication-date/#Item_1

It would seem this affects journals from more than one publisher, so if it can be fixed within Zotero that would probably be good, even if the fault is really the publishers doing their metadata wrong.

This also happens with some Taylor & Francis Group and Springer journals. As with Wiley the online-date is what they have in the metadata. I have sent email messages to each publisher but I have no joy to report. Maybe, if several people complain, the publishers will take action.
  • dwl-sdca do you have links to the papers on those sites? I fixed Wiley and NPG, so if you provide some samples, I'll try to make it work.
  • I can probably find several links but not until tomorrow (Friday).
  • Updated NPG and Wiley translators are now available. Zotero will update automatically within 24 hours or you can update manually from Zotero preferences.
  • Here are a few doi numbers for TFG journal articles that present the wrong date. The first example is for an article in the first issue in 2013 yet it has a 2011 year. I didn't search for much older journal articles that have a recent online-date (that carries over to the metadata published data); but there are many examples.

I note that the RIS format download for these articles also has the wrong year. The BibTex metadata, however, has the correct date.

Another problem with TFG journal articles is that the metadata seems to improperly encode curly quotes, apostrophes, en- and em-dashes. These characters appear as question marks in the metadata.

    10.1080/00036846.2011.568404
    10.1080/00036846.2010.498367
    10.1080/10615806.2011.608126

I hope that this is helpful. Thank you for your work on this problem.
  • I can confirm that the first link to the Wiley paper now gives the right year. Thanks!
