Drag and Drop File for Link Only

When I drag and drop a file to Zotero, it copies the file into its local database. Is there a way to have it only create a link to the file and not copy it?

    not using drag&drop. You can use "add link to file" from the attachment menu or the green plus menu (depending on whether you're adding a file as an attachment or not) - the selection dialog allows to select multiple files at once - but as I say - not via drag and drop (which is a longstanding request and might very well happen at some point - I'd also assume that devs would be happy to accept a patch).
