What is the difference between an autor and contributor?

I am working with an exhibition catalogue and wondering how to list the curators who organized the exhibition versus those who wrote the essays in the catalogue versus the institutions that sponsored the exhibition.

    you can't cite contributors. It sounds like the curators would be editors, the authors would be authors, the institution would be the publisher.
