NO LITTLE BLUE BOOK ICON!!

i hope you'll forgive a very basic issue here.
its like this. tho' Zotero is downloaded and old records are entered lately I can't add more because the little book icon is ABSENT, i.e such as appears in the address bar next to an amazon book address. why? actually just once it appear today. now its gone again. it seems mad.
can you help?

People will need more information in order to help. For a start, please supply the URL of a page that you think should be offering the book icon, but isn't.

sorry for the all caps. but its just so nutty i could scream or cry. even more nutty is it somehow righted itself after i reloaded zotero and added some wordprocessing plugins. so to your yr Q. say i was on amazon with a book title searched for and found. the http address bar wouldn't show a blue book icon. but now its is showing books, videos, articles and folders.. so that's sorted out.. the next issue is entering citations in word text. and adding bibliographies . is it normal for the insert citations icon of the add-in tab of word to generate a red text box which doesn't go away.. i expect it to link to my a choice of bibliographic styles and library

That is the insert citation dialog, so it is normal. Start typing the name of the article that you want to cite and you will see how it works.

oh well, thanks. but first it asked which style of citation to use. i selected. then opened a window showing a folder of my library, for me to select the reference. i selected and entered a page reference too. i entered. then it showed a citation without page number. so, if i had second thoughts about the style, i couldn't go back. whatever i did (edit citation et c) i just got the red box.. .. but now !!! that won't appear...

You can select a different citation style by using a button that is two or three buttons to the right of the button you used to enter a citation. If you hover over it, it will say something like "Document Preferences". Click on it, and you will get a list of styles to select from. Click on a style, click OK, and your references will be updated with the new style.

i understood that's what should happen. i hovered and it says what you say, but clicking didn't generate anything, or sometimes the red box ( for all those icons).
and as i said now even the red box has gone..

i'm going to re-start and see what happens

that did help.. evidently the link between word and zotero dropped out

Do you have other plugins installed in Firefox?

i don't know. not many i suppose. maybe by accident. where can i look?

You can check in Tools -> Add-ons. The reason for asking is that other plugins can (sometimes) interfere with the operation of Zotero. If you are having problems, try disabling them. There are other possible causes, but for further advice I will leave you in the hands of people who know this part of Zotero better than I do.
