Update to 3.0.6

Hi,
I know that is is going to be a real newbie question for many but I'm wondering how to update zotero from 3.0.3 to the new 3.0.6.
I'm currently running 3.0.3 in Firefox 3.6 - this shouldn't be a problem, I think, just let FF do the update.
I'm also running the Standalone version 3.0.3. With the standalone, do I have to uninstall the previous version before installing 3.0.6 or do I just install over it.
Are the databases going to be compatible between 3.0.3 and 3.0.6.
I am currently storing all of zotero's data on a different directory, (shared between FF-Zotero and Standalone). Will I have to make any changes or will the update know where to look.
Will I have to do anything to make sure that the Word plug-ins work ok.
Thanks.
  • Both Zotero's will typically update themselves - if they don't you can do it manually in Firefox using tools-->addons-->extensions --> check for updates from the screwdriver/wrench icon
in Zotero Standalone under Help-->check for updates.
There is no need to re-install either of them.

It might be that Zotero updates aren't pushed to Firefox 3.6 anymore, since that has finally run it's course (mozilla ended support at the end of April - you should upgrade to 12 asap so as to not expose yourself to substantial security risks).

The updates save all your settings, including data directory and word plugin. There are never database changes between minor versions - if there are database changes, Zotero handles them automatically.
  • Zotero updates are still pushed to 3.6.
  • thanks Dan - so you (cyborgusa) should get prompted to update anytime or you can follow my instructions above (if you installed from mozilla.org rather than zotero.org you'll receive upgrades later).

My point about upgrading Firefox asap for security reasons stands, though.
  • Hi, thanks to everyone that replied. I did the update as instructed on both the FF and Standalone version and it went off without a hitch. This Zotero community rocks. Far better than what anyone can expect from a corporate, or never mind, a government institution. Keep up the great work. I send a virtual round of Bavarian Weisen.
