Zotero RDF Export: Files are not exported; problem Dropbox?

Hello,

I would like to export my files in Zotero RDF. I checked bothe boxes (files and notes). But I just get the rdf-file.

I do use Dropbox to sync my files. Mybe this causes the problem.

Does anybody know more? How can I fix that?

Thanks for your help.

  • it depends on how you use dropbox.
If you have moved your entire Zotero folder into the Dropbox folder, that may very well be the problem.
This is strongly discouraged, it will almost inevitably corrupt your database and you're on your own with any problems you encounter.

If you have found a way to actually sync _just_ the attached files - not the Zotero database - via dropbox (most likely via symlink) that shouldn't affect export (or any other functionality).
In that case provide an error report ID for the operation.

  • Thanks adamsmith,

don't know why, but I read your comment at

    http://diyivorytower.wordpress.com/2011/04/14/use-dropbox-to-sync-and-store-your-zotero-database/

    to late.

The crazy thing is, that everthing else works perfectly.

Your suggestions to use jungledisk, mydisk or something else is not always working because of the huge amount of files which zotero generates, when you save homepages.

Some of them have file limit, even if you pay.
  • For other users with the same problem.

I moved some folders in new folders. After that I could export each folder separatly. Some files were doubled but no file was messing so far.

Another solution is to use the normal backup way. You can see it here:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data

This works for me. I can't export, but I can backup.
  • just to be clear about this - we don't know all the problems that can be caused by using dropbox - there are all types of things that can go wrong - essentially, as long as you have your Zotero folder in dropbox you'll get zero support for any problems you encounter, because the best guess is that it's connected to your set-up.
Set up a working webDAV (cloudme apparently works quite well), pay for Zotero storage, read up on symlinks and symlink your storage folder to dropbox - there are lots of things you can do at various levels of comfort and pricing, but your current set-up is a disaster waiting to happen.

Yes your are right. It would be much better to pay for zotero storage, especially they do great work. I wouldn't have that trouble I have now.

Thanks for your tip with cloudme. I will try this. But I think my half broken database will not be repaired if I set-up a webdav.

At the moment I just want to work with one computer. I will note use any sync. I just want to backup the files and after I finished my work I will give the files the prof. with portable firefox and zotero.

After that I will set-up a new zotero database.

As I already mentioned I am wondering why the exporte sometimes failed, but the backup and the zotero works.
