Style Request: International Journal of Tropical Biology and Conservation
Hello,
I am new to zotero (big thanks BTW, fantastic app!). I need to format my references according to the style of the International Journal of Tropical Biology and Conservation, but it appears the style is not available yet. If possible, I would like to request it.
The guide they provide can be found here: http://www.ots.ac.cr/tropiweb/attachments/Authors guide.pdf
Thank you

This is an open access journal. A free online article can be downloaded at:

The closest existing CSL style I found is: Elsevier's Harvard Style (with titles).
Differences:
In text citing:
• Use & instead of “and” to separate citations with 2 authors.
• No punctuation (commas) after authors name. E.g. Freese 1983; instead of Freese, 1983.
• Use of et al: 3 or more authors: Alberts et al. 2005. The words “et al” must be in italics, followed by a non-italic period: et al.
• Use “,” instead of “;” to separate multiple citations: (Smith 1978, Richards 1982, 1985, Walker and Barnes 1992, Robbins et al. 2007).
Bibligraphy:
General:
• Et al is not used, list all authors.
• Use & to separate last author/editor from the previous one.
• No comma between last author and year. E.g.: Frankham, R. 2005.
• Authors, other than the first one, are cited in the order: Initials Last name. E.g:
Risk, M.J., B.E. Lapointe, O.A. Sherwood & B.J. Bedford.
• References with both paper and electronic versions are included in the standard references section, using the standard format, but you must add URL address, eg.:
Perez, J. & K. Smith. 2005. Ultrastructural correlations in tropical cambrian epifauna. Rev. Biol. Trop. 53: 907-932 (also available on-line: www.tropiweb/53/2/perez.htm).
Journal Articles:
• Official journal abbreviations are accepted.
• Use “:”instead of “,”to separate volume and pages: 48: 1016-1046.
Books:
• Include publisher, city, state or province, and country
• Shorten printers name (eg. write Wiley instead of Wiley and Sons Publications, inc., do not write “Press”, “Verlag” and equivalent words).
• Do not state edition number or total number of pages in the book.
• E.g.: Robinson, J.S. 2005. Icthyology. Winsley, New York, New York, USA.
Book Section:
• Pages follow title of the section used, and use “p.” instead of “pp.” After this, use In (capitalized, italics) followed by the editors (initials last name) Then, after the last editors' last name, follow with “(eds.).” (no special format) No punctuation between the editors last name and (eds.) [use (ed.). in the case of a single editor]. Follow by book title. Then publisher info, as in a book reference. E.g.:
Peters, W.H. 2005. Sediments, p. 7-41. In R. Smith & J.A. Mead (eds.). Tropical ecosystems. Van der Meet, The Hague, Holland.
Internet references:
• Follow same format as all other citations, followed by: (Downloaded: Month DD, YYYY, url address). E.g.:
Anonymous. 2004. Population genetics in tropical birds. Institute for Avian Research, Perth, Western Territory, Australia. (Downloaded: December 23, 2006, www.iar.net.autropical.htm).
Thesis:
• After title, follow with type, thesis (must type this word), university, place (city and country). E.g.:
Stern, G. 2005. Evolution of DNA sequences in Netropical cambarids (Crustacea: Decapoda). Ph.D. Thesis, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden.
Thank you very much
I have taken a good look at the style, and it works great. If possible, there are a couple of small details that could be improved, both of them in the bibliography:
1) A period is required after the authors' names and before the year. This period is missing when there is more than one author. E.g.
Higgins, K. & M. Lynch 2001. [Period missing between Lynch and 2001]
I should note that this period is not required after the editors' names in a Book section. No change to the current style is needed regarding this.
2) For book section references, No colon is needed after the 'In'. Also, when there is more than one editor, '&' should separate the last one. E.g. In A. Estrada, P.A. Garber & L. Luecke (eds.). [Instead of In: A. Estrada, P.A. Garber, L. Luecke (eds.).]
I should note that the In is properly formatted in italics.
Thank you
EDIT: Also, I just noted that a comma is missing when citing multiple papers in the text. This comma should separate the year of a reference from the authors of the next one.
E.g. (Frankham 2003 Muniz et al. 2010 Melin et al. 2007, 2008, 2009 Möller et al. 2007 Muniz & Vigilant 2008 Milton et al. 2009)
Should read: (Frankham 2003, Muniz et al. 2010, Melin et al. 2007, 2008, 2009, Möller et al. 2007, Muniz & Vigilant 2008, Milton et al. 2009)
I don't intent to pressure, I was just wondering whether this is in the right place, or should be in an independent topic under "Style error"
Thank you
I hope this is not a nuisance, I am bumping the topic, just in case it has slipped your mind.
What I believe needs to be corrected are the small details I posted on April 23.
Thank you
Many thanks!
Also, it seems that this journal is undergoing some adjustments, among which there is a change in the citation style used. They will gradually switch to the APA format.
I don´t know how this will affect the current style available in zotero.
Thank you
