Adding Notes - Huh?

I love this feature but have a problem: each time I ADD a note to a folder, the previous Note(s) pop up and are simply added onto,making a very LONG note. What am I doing wrong? Right-clicking on highlighted text is easy, but with the same result: I'm getting a long, extended note instead of concise, folder-specific notes.

Please help!

    Sorry, I don't follow what you're doing. There are no folders in Zotero. And I don't see how you would add a note to a collection (which has the folder-type icon).
    Please take a step back and explain step-by-step what you're doing and the result you're getting.

    Amplifying what adamsmith says I find that when I add a new note to a it is created as a new note rather than as an addition. However, notes themselves, being represented by yellow rectangles (after the comment convention in MS Word perhaps), as are explorer folders, may look like folders. If you click on a yellow rectangle which is a note then you will only be given the opportunity to make a longer note.

    It could be that yellow rectangles are causing problems due to the confusing between folders, collections, and also notes.
