How to improve numbering in a style?

Hi,

How could I improve numbering in a style. For instance:

Normal
Citation=> It is based on Scott (2000)
Reference=> SCOTT, C. People...

What I want to improve
Citation=> It is based on [1]
Reference=> [1] SCOTT, C. People...
