Inserting a citation gives "Word has encountered a problem" error

Hi,
I have properly installed Zotero on my laptop, but every time I try to insert a citation, I get the following message:
zoteroWinWordIntegrationException "Word has encountered a problem" code "0" function "zoteroWinWordField:SetText" location ".\zoteroWinWordField.cpp"
I have sent an error report with ID number 376694219.

I am working with Windows XP, Word 2007, Zotero version 3.0.3. and Firefox version 10.0.2.
I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Zotero, but the problem remains.
Could you please tell me how I could solve this? Thank you!
  • Does this happen in a new document?
  • Hi, I have the same problem. It doesn't happen in a new document; however, if I copy and paste the text from the non-functioning document into a new one, it only works for a while and then breaks down again (so the only option at the moment is to copy/paste again and again which is rather time-consuming...).
  • I am having the same issue...

Windows 7, Zotero Standalone 3.0.3, Word 2007 and Libre Office 3.4.

I have to use Word 2007 at the office and like using Libre at home, so am using a Author-Date citation format to ensure compatability between the two systems. It worked fine yesterday creating citations and then editing the document at work today. I attempted to open the document for editing in Libre to enter a citation and it said there was an invalid XML something or other. No worries, I just switched to Word, input a Bibliography, and went to add another citation and got the same error.

Following the advice of "lenasfiles" I tried copying into another document and add the citation, but get the same error. When I click OK, the "quick format" bar just hands and keeps showing the green progress bar.

Can any or all of you send a document or portion of a document that reproduces this to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • Hi,
As for me, it happens in any document, new or already used. Since I'm currently at sick leave and do not have my laptop with me, I will send you the document probably next Monday.
  • If it happens in a new document, does it matter what citation style you select in the Zotero document preferences window?
  • Hi Simon,
By checking and trying to change the citation style, I found out what seems to be the problem. The problem appears when I select the option 'bookmarks'. With the option 'fields' everything is functioning well.
Since I'm working at home with Open Office and at work with Word, it is still important for me to be able to exchange my documents, hence to work with the 'bookmarks' option. So if you have a solution for my problem, it would be welcome.

I have the same problem and like above it is only when the bookmarks setting is used. "Fields" works OK. I did try reinstalling zotero in Firefox that made no difference. Using Firefox 10.0.2, Zotero 3.03, Windows 7 (svc ok 1), MS Word 2007.
  • Ditto here, tried on several machines with no avail.
    My configuration is:
    -Win 7 32
    -Word 2010
    -Latest Zotero plug-ins

When switching to Fields all is okay. The bookmark option breaks the update process.

The error is the same with the standalone and with the FF plug in
Here is my error ID 1328003130 that I reported today.

In my experience, all citation styles will generate the same error.
Strangely enough I have my own simplistic citation style that does not break the conversion . All the other styles break the conversion.

    Any solutions?
  • This should be fixed in the WinWord Integration Trunk XPI. Feel free to install it, but make sure to install WinWord Integration 3.1.6 when it's released, which will probably happen later this week.
