Error: "This entry does not exist anymore in your zotero database"

Hi
Since the update to zotero 3.0 I can't insert nor edit citations in an already existing wordfile. I am able to chose the entry in the classic view of zotero but then when I click ok I get the errormessage "This entry does not exist anymore in your zotero database". When I open a new wordfile, the citation works perfectly.
I tried:
- update to zotero 3.0, cancel zotero.dot and reinstall word add in
- Checked that the wanted entry is still in the database
- save the existing word file under a new name
- copy paste the whole text into a new wordfile

What else can I do? Cancel and reinstall Zotero? Would that help?

Thank you for your help!
  • When did you last use the document? Did you last use it on the same computer (or one synced via Zotero sync)?

This generally happens when you export/import to transfer items. What you see in your database doesn't matter—what's important is the underlying identifier, which isn't preserved when using export. (Zotero 3.0 can store item metadata in the document itself to avoid this problem.)

Highlight a supposedly missing entry in the document, right-click, and choose Toggle Field Codes. Then copy the URL that shows up and paste it in here.
  • Thank you for your fast answer!

I used the document two days ago on the same computer. I only sync my zotero data on an other computer for backup, not the documents I work with, so I do not export or import.

    I am not sure if I copy the right URL here...I can't copy past it here, it always turns into the Name (Year) format, so I write it down manually: { ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM{"citationID"."23a4tkql5p","citationItems":[{"locator":"35","label":"page","uri":["http://zotero.org/users/564258/items/59QJD4XK"]}]} }

    Thank you
  • OK, that item does exist in your library online. Can you confirm that, when you right-click and generate a report of the item in your Zotero library, you see "59QJD4XK" within the URL in the address bar?

If so, please provide a Debug ID for an attempt to insert a citation that triggers that error.
  • yes, the adress bar of the report:
    zotero://report/items/0_59QJD4XK/html/report.html

Debug ID attempt insert a citation: D743686166.

Are you sure that's the citation being flagged as missing? Open the document anew and do a Refresh in the Zotero toolbar, which should trigger the same error, and make sure that's actually the item being highlighted.

If it is, Simon will have to follow up with additional debugging.
  • Thanks, I think there is some change... I closed the wordfile and reopened. The message appeared and one entry was highlighted. I canceled this entry, saved and closed the document. When I try to add a citation now, I get a different message: TypeError: this.registry.citationreg.citationById[c[0]] is undefined
  • Problem fixed!! Thank you!!
So it was one entry that blocked the whole thing...

If you can save an excerpt (smallest possible) of the original document that still reproduces the issue and e-mail it to support@zot....org with a link to this thread, we may be able to figure out what the problem was and fix it.
  • I think I know what happend. I had entered in my library one book twice and then I canceled one of them in the library. I think I canceled exately the one I was refering to in the wordfile. So the document that triggered the problem doesnt exist anymore.

Thank you very much for your help.
