Translators not working for any web site ID# 1058174740

Every website I've tried (cnn.com, nytimes.com, foxnews.com, allrecipes.com) have given me the error message:

Saving Item...
An error occurred while saving this item. Check Known Translator Issues for more information.

I have updated my translators in my general preferences. I don't know what else to do!

Using a Mac: Safari
Using Zotero Standalone

Note: I am not using firefox.

The report I generated was from an attempt to capture this article:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/02/01/panetta-us-looking-to-end-formal-combat-role-in-afghanistan-in-2013/

ID# 1058174740

Thank you!!
  • Could we get an error report from trying to save a NYTs article, too, please?

(Simon/Dan - what do these errors say?)

adamsmith: Nothing, yet—the error, whatever it is, is on the connector side.

(We should update the translator troubleshooting documentation to say we need connector error reports when applicable. I'm not sure if we generally will need Standalone-side reports too. Possibly not.)
  • From the fox article: Report ID:1764049962
  • From the NYTimes article, Safari Report ID:507565123

how about a regular NYT article:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/25/opinion/the-justice-of-occupation.html
    or an Amazon book?
    http://www.amazon.com/Inquiry-Nature-Causes-Wealth-Nations/dp/161382162X/

Edit: To explain: We have seen problems with the Embedded Metadata translator (see 5. here http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues ) in connectors before. That's the one used for the two links you provided.
  • Ok, I was able to save both of those, and I read #5. What does this mean? Just that I'm basically going to have to be unable to download those? If this is the case, then I am glad that at least it's not an across the board problem.

Question- is this because I have Standalone and am operating from Safari? I didn't want to download Firefox, but is the Firefox program better?
  • Couple of things -
    1. You can still download them - albeit with less data - by right-clicking anywhere in the site and selecting "Save Zotero Snapshot" from the context menu.
    2. This works in Standalone in general - e.g. for me - we'd like to find out why it doesn't for some people and hopefully fix that.
  • Ok, great! Thanks!
