Retain search terms when switching folders

Sometimes when viewing a collection, I will type in a search term, and the item sought will not be in the result set (or the result set may be empty). I then click to the My Library "total" collection, or a different collection, and expect it to do the search over that collection, showing results.
Instead, it clears the search query and I have to re-type it for each folder I want to look in. Can this be changed, to make the query/terms a bit more persistent?
