Merged Word Docs can't generate bibliography

I have cut and pasted several Word documents (book chapters) with Z citations throughout. However, when I go to the end and try to insert a bibliography I get a message saying "You must insert a citation before performing this operation." I have no trouble generating bibliographies for the individual documents (chapters) before I paste them.

Using Mac, Word 2011 (14.1.4), Z 2.1.10

Thanks
  • Try setting a bibliography style for the new document before pasting.
  • I noticed on another post that someone mentioned putting in a new citation to the merged document. That seemed to work. It asked for a bibliography style, then (after thinking for a while) it gave me a bibliography! Whew.

    Thanks
  • I'm facing the same problem, which is driving me a bit crazy.
Trying to paste some chapters together for the purpose of creating a single bibliography.

I create a new document, set a bibliography style, then paste the content of two test chapters into it. When I add a bibliography, it's empty. My source documents are in .doc format, with Bookmarks. Same for the new document.

If I do add a new citation, then refresh, the bibliography will only contain the new citation.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this not compatible with LibreOffice?

Using Mac OS X 10.6.8, LibreOffice 3.6.3, Zotero for Firefox 3.0.14
  • Bookmarks are iffy - I can't get it to work properly with those either in LO.
Converting to Reference Marks should solve this for you.
  • Thanks, all sorted switching to Reference Marks. Not ideal, but works. By doing that, now even Master document on LO seems to work. Fingers crossed...
