"Zotero experienced an error updating your document."

Whenever I try to update my document, I get something that says "Zotero experienced an error updating your document" and "this.state.registry.registry[my]ds[i]] is undefined." What does this mean and how can I get it fixed? This document has way too many citations in it already for me to try to start over. I sent an error report (371039862)

    Try creating a fresh, empty document, select a style and create one footnote in it (to wake it up for Zotero), and then copy and paste the content of the old document into it. Save and close the original copy, try hitting "Refresh" in the new copy, and see if that works.
