Auto-organize feature

For some things one doesn't want to do their own organizing...(re-inventing the wheel :))
the LoC subject classification is sufficient, one just needs to
have a collection tree hierarchy mirror the LoC subject classification hierarchy and the entries automatically placed in the right "buckets".

Here's how it could be used: The user could right click on a collection
on the left pane, select settings like "adjust the depth level" to mirror, then let zotero do the work :)
If the original collection contains subcollections, let those either be discarded, updated if they match in name, or ignored if they are different in name than the LoC subjects.

Thank you!

  • What is "LoC subject classification" and why would it be useful? Where would Zotero get the LoC subject classification for each item?

Also, many people like to have their own filing system for articles (e.g. one collection for each paper, reading packages for students, personal reading lists) so I doubt that this is something that everyone would want. In this case it might be better to that this was coded as a plugin.
  • LoC classification is the catalog system used by the Library of Congress and many other libraries.
The main issue I see is that afaik the LoC doesn't classify articles etc. so this would be rather limited in scope.
Beyond this, implementing this would be a huge amount of work, I agree.
