Can you change the order of fields?

Can you change the order of fields?
For example, I would like the "Journal Abbr" field to appear right after the "Publication" field, so I can take a glance of the two fields together easily.

no, that's not currently possible.

Click the "journal abbr" heading at the top of the middle column and drag it next to the "publication" heading.
edit: I misunderstood your question. My answer might be helpful anyway.

to clarify - I'm talking about the right-hand panel (where this isn't possible), Gracile about the middle column (where you can display them next to each other).

Yes, adam's understanding of my question was acccurate. That's what I wanted to do. Although Gracile's answer might be a get-around, my middle column is cramped as it is already and I wouldn't want to allocate more space to the "journal abbr" field.
