Dissertation does not seem to be saved correctly

Dear Zotero,

I saved the dissertation below to Zotero (using FF, ZSA did not work):

urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-50080: More or less than human : the influence of shame on psychological distress
http://umu.diva-portal.org/smash/record.jsf?pid=diva2:459013

However the saved format does not seem to be correct to me. I added a manual entry for the same URL above. Compare the two entries here:

https://www.zotero.org/groups/from_some_psychologists/items/q/More%20or%20less%20than%20human

The first is the automatically saved entry and the second my manual entry. The second is how I believe it should look.

Kind regards,
L

PS: Using Z 3.0b2 for FF
  • embedded metadata, even where of decent quality, won't work well for non-standard item types (i.e. anything other than journal articles - there just aren't any clear enough standards for this.)
  • Still, we should be doing better than we are. The Google/HighWire metadata includes a clear thesis flag, citation_dissertation_institution, and they have properly linked MODS and MARCXML as well:
    <link href="http://umu.diva-portal.org/smash/getreferences?referenceFormat=librismarcxml&amp;pids=diva2:459013"
    rel="alternate" title="MARC-XML Representation" type="text/xml" />
    <link href="http://umu.diva-portal.org/smash/getreferences?referenceFormat=swepubmods&amp;pids=diva2:459013"
    rel="alternate" title="MODS Representation" type="text/xml" />

    Making a site like this work out of the box should be a serious goal for us.
  • I created a ticket to track the general problem here: https://github.com/zotero/translators/issues/77

    Note that I don't expect the site to work with no modifications whatsoever; at the very least, the maintainers will need to change the specified type of the MODS alternate to application/mods+xml, since we're not going to go and request everything marked text/xml and just hope it's something we can understand.
  • Thanks ajlyon. I have just tried to get in contact with the maintainers.
