A question about editing a citation.

hi there,

say for instance I drop in a citation like this:

(Sax et al., 2011)

and want to change it to:

Sax et al. (2011)

Can I just edit it right there in word as I see it cos normally I hit the citation until it turns grey and use the Zotero Edit button then navigate to the classic view/show editor and edit the citation to reflect any changes I want.

It would be such a time saver if I could just edit the citation as normal (without all those steps)

thx.
  • no you can't those changes will be overwritten on the next refresh.
Use the "suppress author" button (which, I believe, is somehow accessible from the new plugin layout, too). http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage#suppress_authorsusing_authors_in_the_text
It's designed specifically for this purpose.

In the new layout, after you select a reference, click on the bubble to view options, including Suppress Author.

Also, Zotero 3.0 will only overwrite changes made to the citation in Word if the citation has actually changed, and it will warn you first, but it's still a much better idea to use suppress author.
