Request to select data folder in preferences...
I think this has been elegantly solved by JabRef (a Java based BibTex bibliography manager) - there, you select your "PDF" folder in preferences and JabRef searches through any subfolders for the correct file that was linked to a database entry. If you could select a parent folder like this for your data then a change in folder structure (new partition, new computer, whatever) will not hurt the established links to subfolders. As it is right now you have to manually change every link whenever folder structures change.
I hope I explained that right...
I know about importing - but I don't want to do that. I want to keep all my articles together in one folder so I can access them with different tools. I have a couple hundred links now. If my computer ever crashes, I install a new Linux distribution or I want to move my database to a different computer every link to a file will be useless.
