trouble syncing after resetting web library

hello,
I reset the web library today, but after choosing the option to restore my laptop library to the zotero server, my attempts to upload were unsuccessful. I tried several times, throughout the day. The green arrow would spin around a little, and then stop, and then continue spinning a little. Eventually, the red exclamation point appears.
The error ID from the last attempt was: 1203594860
The zotero version I am using is 2.1.10 on Windows. The DB is rather large, and I wonder if that is the problem.
thanks!
caroline
  • Keep trying.

Why did you reset the library?
  • Restarting your computer and/or upgrading to 3.0b2 (or the 3.0 Branch dev XPI) might help.
  • OK.
I reset the library because I synched it with an earlier copy of zotero (from before) from another machine when I was trying to retrieve missing info. I was afraid that syncing to the web from my main machine would result in deleting work I had done on my other laptop. In other words, at one point in time, I was using two laptops for different things, simultaneously and was afraid of losing the changes I had made, so thought it would be good to start over.
Sounds like there was no need?
  • Syncing only deletes data you delete yourself. If you sync an old database, it just pulls newer data down from the server. The reset options should almost never be used, and they can easily cause problems, as you can see.

    But try 3.0.

Would you recommend using 3.0b2 or the other one (3.0 Branch dev XPI)?
I'm right in the middle of writing my dissertation.
  • Try 3.0b2 first. If that doesn't work, try the branch XPI.

Make sure you have a backup of your Zotero data directory.

    I made one before syncing.
    OK. thanks, I will.
  • I'm using 3.0b2 now, and it looks like all items have uploaded, but the collections have not yet appeared. I think it took a while the first time I uploaded for the collections to load, so I will wait a bit and see.
  • Everything, including the collections have uploaded to the web now. Zandy (Android app) still detects collections that I have deleted, though. Maybe the phantom collections will disappear after more syncing.
  • Zandy does not have a way of detecting that collections or items have been deleted server-side. Sorry-- I'll work on this issue as I focus on the next wave of development in the coming weeks. If it's a major issue for you now, you can reset Zandy and sync anew to get rid of the phantom collections.

    [I'm the author of Zandy.]
  • No worries - it doesn't bother me at all. I find it very useful for looking up what I need to check out when I'm at the library.
    Thanks, a great app!
